WHAT IS DERMAPLANING AND HOW CAN IT REJUVENATE MY SKIN? At first, the explanation of this treatment may sound a little bit scary. However, Dermaplaning is one of the gentlest and most comfortable esthetic services available. Simply put, a blade implement similar to a razor is used to scrape away the dead skin cells that give your complexion a dull, rough and uneven texture. Essentially, it exfoliates your skin.
BENEFITS OF DERMAPLANING:
Reduces the appearance of visible signs of aging and skin damage including fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation
Leaves the skin immediately smooth, supple and vibrant
Noticeable improvement in overall texture and a more refined, “glowing” appearance
Removes soft facial hair
Helps skin care products penetrate deeper and maximize effectiveness
Smooths mild and/or recent acne scarring
Clears away dead skin that traps dirt, oil and debris that cause blemishes and congestion in pores
Promotes an even, flawless surface for makeup application
Immediate results with virtually no downtime or redness
IS DERMAPLANING THE RIGHT TREATMENT OPTION FOR ME?
Dermaplaning is extremely gentle and safe for all skin types. It is the perfect alternative for those with even the most sensitive skin who tend to be allergic to certain products or cannot tolerate aggressive treatments such as chemical peels. It is also very beneficial for clients who naturally have a lot of fine facial hair, those with rough or dry skin, redness, rosacea and visible facial veins. Also a safe treatment for clients who are pregnant/trying to get pregnant or nursing.
Another benefit that this treatment offers over other types of exfoliation treatments is that it removes fine hair aka "peach fuzz". Facial hair can cause an accumulation of bacteria and lead acne and blemishes. So, in addition to the fact that it can prevent acne, it also leaves you with a smooth complexion. You will feel comfortable when you are not wearing makeup, and you will notice that your makeup glides on smoothly after you receive your treatment.
Some treatment options promise smoother skin, but they can’t promise that they’ll be gentle. Dermaplaning is rising in popularity for its easiness on the skin and its lustrous results! Contact us today to schedule a consultation appointment and find out if Dermaplaning is for you!
WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?
No. Hairs grow back light, soft and fine and will not become coarser because of the treatment. Dermaplaning is designed to treat the vellus hair or “peach fuzz,” which is located on the face. When these hairs are cut or removed, they grow back the same size and shape, therefore, the structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by by this treatment.
HOW OFTEN CAN I RECEIVE DERMAPLANING TREATMENTS?
Dermaplaning is gentle enough to be done weekly. However, treatments are usually performed anywhere from 2 - 4 weeks in order to eliminate damaged skin and avoid any adverse effects. For vellus hair or “peach fuzz” removal, Results typically last from 6 - 8 weeks.
WHAT SIDE EFFECTS MIGHT I EXPERIENCE FROM DERMAPLANING?
Occasionally, you may experience slight peeling for the first few days. Slight windburn sensation and/or blotchiness may occur for the first few days. Skin care products may tingle or slightly burn for the first few days.
HOW DOES IS DIFFER FROM MICRODERMABRASION?
Microdermabrasion is an abrasive, rapid exfoliation that sands off 3 layers of dead or damaged skin to reveal an undamaged layer of skin underneath. Whereas with Dermaplaning, it is not abrasive, there is no discomfort or pain and no recovery time.
IS DERMAPLANING PAINFUL OR UNCOMFORTABLE?
Not at all. Dermaplaning is 100% pain free. Some clients even fall asleep during their treatment!
ARE THERE CLIENTS THAT WOULD NOT BE SUITABLE FOR DERMAPLANING?
If you have broken out with acne, our esthetic staff recommends waiting for any major blemishes to fade. Dermaplaning the skin while there is acne present can cause irritation or redness.
Other clients who would not be good or suitable:
Active or cystic acne or those who have taken Accutane within the past year
Those undergoing cancer treatment
Have an uncontrolled bleeding problem
Those with an excessive production of sebaceous gland oil. Sebaceous glands excrete oil along the vellushair. If the hair is removed, the oils may cause bacteria growth that can stimulate acne breakouts.
